Erik Langdalen. An Interview

by Julia Schwarz and Amanda Holden

“Architecture is no longer only about making your statement. You really have to write yourself into something” says Erik Langdalen

Erik Langdalen’s work is unique in sensitively tackling the restoration and modernisation of historic farmsteads in the north of Norway. Practicing in these distinctive contexts presents challenges which are quite alien to conventional architectural practice, not least dealing diplomatically with the many interests involved in rural community life. Meeting Erik, we were struck by his infectious calmness, balance and positivity; qualities which may make him particularly capable of grappling with this complex and uncharted architectural territory.
